Are you having guests over for the holidays?

Entertaining the In-laws or is there someone special that you want to impress?

We have some ideas to spruce up you home for the holidays. You’ll be happy, they’ll be impressed, and everyone will be able to relax and have a good time.

#1. Freshen Up the Foyer

Focus on the areas that your guests will be in the most. The one area that all guests will see first is the Foyer, or entranceway. Is there enough space to move around? Do you have an area to hang coats? Perhaps add some hooks, or have more hangers for you hall closet? Perhaps clean out your hall closet of coats you won’t be using in the next little while. It may also be time to consider adding a fresh coat of paint to brighten up the area.

#2. Revitalize the Living Room With a Fresh Coat of Paint

The Living Room is usually the second room your company will not only see, but probably spend some quality time in. One of the easiest things to do to spruce up a room is to add a fresh coat of paint, and perhaps renew the colour choice. Once you start moving furniture out of the way to make room for painting, consider placing it all back in a different location, more accommodative to hanging out and chatting with guests.

#3. Consider the Dining Room

If you are having people over for dinner, you might want to take a glance around your dining room. For some people, they rarely go into their dining room. Except during the holiday season when they have company over. How is your lighting? It is bright enough? Is is too bright? There are plenty of options out there these days for new, updated light fixtures. Also, how is your table size? Could you do with a new table that can not only accommodate guests, but can be retracted down to a manageable size in times when you are not entertaining?

#4. Tear Down a Wall

Does your sitting area feel cramped? Is there not enough light getting through to all of your rooms? Tearing down a wall does not have to be a complicated project. If it is something you have always considered doing, now may be the perfect time to consider “getting it done”.

#5. Re-vamp Your Kitchen Island

If you are doing a lot of cooking, you will need some extra space in your kitchen to move around, and to set extra dishes or have extra room to work. Perhaps it is a good time to take a look at your kitchen island. Do you have one? Is it the size you want it to be? Do you have limited space? Have you considered one on wheels? There are many solutions to adding more counter space in your kitchen without doing a full-scale renovation. (Often the best place to put an island is where a wall used to be.)

#6. Add a Bedroom

Do you have guests staying over this holiday season? Do you have an unfinished bedroom, or a space you could use as a bedroom that needs just a bit of work? Now is a great time to re-think the extra spaces in your house. It will help with company during the holidays, and will also add to the long term value of your home, as part of your house value is based on how many people it can sleep.

#7. Finish the Basement

Do you have some unfinished projects from years gone by? A basement half complete? We can help you build a wall or two that will help everyone with a little more privacy a lot more sleep, and perhaps create some extra space for company to spread out and engage in different activities. A basement can be a great place for kids to play, or for extra company to “crash”.

There are so many more things you can do to get ready for the holidays, and some of these do not take that long to complete and will make a big difference to your home and your holiday experience.
